**GenRank tracks ChatGPT only, with trend analysis, at a low monthly price.** Single-engine focus is a defensible choice, because ChatGPT carries more volume than the rest combined for most categories. The reason to leave is usually that a second engine started mattering, or that a trend line stopped being enough.

We build Kitbase, whose own entry plan also tracks ChatGPT alone.

## Adding a second engine cheaply

### Otterly.AI

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot at the base tier, with Gemini and AI Mode as add-ons, plus a GEO content audit. The cheapest jump from one engine to four. **Best for** small teams broadening coverage.

### Hall

Free tier covering around eight surfaces with stored history, conversation context behind each citation and server-side agent analytics. Free and broader than any paid single-engine tool. **Best for** anyone adding engines without adding budget.

### Rankscale

Multi-engine, credit-based, lowest serious paid price, with AEO audits. **Best for** budget-constrained multi-engine tracking.

### AIclicks

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini with optimisation guidance attached. **Best for** teams wanting advice alongside coverage.

### ZipTie

Google AI Overviews plus ChatGPT and Perplexity, with reporting depth beyond its price. **Best for** categories that live in AI Overviews.

## Going deeper on ChatGPT

Sometimes the answer isn't more engines.

### Kitbase

Kitbase's Starter plan tracks ChatGPT only, through the OpenAI Responses API, at $99 a month. What differs from a single-engine tracker is the resolution and what sits underneath.

Presence rate splits brand mentions from actual domain citations, because being named and being linked to need different work. Cited sources go down to the exact page, classified as yours, a competitor's or third-party and tagged by source type from user-generated content through to editorial. Each mention carries sentiment, whether you were recommended or merely named, and your position when the answer is a ranked list. Share of voice is normalised across every tracked brand with a dense rank over time, and competitors ChatGPT names that you don't track get surfaced automatically with backfilled history.

Then the layers no answer-only tool has: server-side [AI crawler detection](https://docs.kitbase.dev/crawler-detection) with identity verification and per-path crawl frequency, covering GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot among others, so you can see whether OpenAI's crawlers are reading the pages you want cited. Cookieless web analytics on the same events pipeline with funnels, journeys and retention. Backlink opportunities built from the domains ChatGPT cites where you're absent, a link marketplace, a site audit and keyword research.

Gemini and Perplexity arrive on Pro, and the full ten surfaces on Business.

**The honest limitation:** several times GenRank's price for the same single engine at the entry tier. The extra buys depth and the crawler and analytics layers, not more engines. **Best for** teams whose ChatGPT trend line stopped explaining anything.

### Profound and Peec AI

The upper tiers: Profound for the widest coverage plus real prompt-volume data, Peec for demand-weighted prompt discovery and multi-country tracking. **Best for** teams where AI visibility is somebody's full-time concern.

## Is one engine enough?

For a lot of businesses, honestly, yes for a while. ChatGPT dominates usage, and if your presence there is poor, fixing it matters more than measuring four other surfaces where you're equally absent.

Two things change that.

**Your buyers are elsewhere.** If you sell into Microsoft-heavy enterprises, Copilot matters. If your market is consumer, Meta AI's distribution across its apps is enormous. If you sell to developers, Claude usage skews that way. Referral data and AI crawler activity on your own site are the cheapest evidence of where your audience actually is.

**Google's surfaces intercept existing demand.** AI Overviews and AI Mode sit on top of search results you already compete for, which is a different mechanic from a chat assistant and worth measuring separately. We covered it in [Google AI Overviews and SEO](/blog/google-ai-overviews-seo).

Until one of those applies, adding engines mostly adds cost, since every prompt sent to every engine is a paid API call.

## FAQ

**Is tracking only ChatGPT enough?**
Often, initially. ChatGPT carries the most volume in most categories. Add engines when evidence says your buyers use them.

**What is the cheapest multi-engine alternative?**
Hall's free tier, then Rankscale among paid tools.

**Which alternatives track AI crawlers?**
Hall, Kitbase, Profound and Scrunch AI. Kitbase verifies crawler identity against published ranges.

**Does Kitbase track only ChatGPT?**
On the Starter plan, yes. Pro adds Gemini and Perplexity; Business reaches ten surfaces.

**How do I know which engines my buyers use?**
Start with referral data and which AI crawlers fetch your site. Both are imperfect proxies and both beat guessing.
