**Profound is the enterprise standard for measuring how AI engines talk about your brand, and Kitbase measures the same thing but wires it to the crawler logs and web analytics that explain the number.** Profound tracks more answer surfaces than almost anyone and backs it with prompt-demand data drawn from real conversations, which no amount of clever sampling replicates. Kitbase tracks nine engines, and then answers the two questions a standalone visibility dashboard leaves hanging: did the engines actually read your pages, and did the people who arrived from an AI answer do anything.

We build Kitbase, so treat this as an argued case rather than a neutral review. Where Profound is stronger we say so plainly, and there are several places where it is.

## What Profound does that we don't

Profound's advantages are structural, not cosmetic.

**Prompt-volume data.** Profound reports what people actually ask AI assistants, drawn from a large conversation dataset. Every other tool in this category, Kitbase included, tracks the prompts *you* thought to enter. That difference compounds: if your buyers phrase the question in a way nobody on your team predicted, a prompt-list tool never finds out, and Profound can. For a brand in a contested category, that is the single most valuable thing on this page.

**Engine breadth on every plan.** Profound covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, Meta AI, DeepSeek, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. Kitbase reaches ten answer engines too, but the count is tied to your plan: Starter watches ChatGPT alone, Pro adds Gemini and Perplexity, and the full set arrives on Business. If you need Copilot, Grok or Meta AI specifically, we don't cover them at any tier.

**Enterprise depth.** Profound is built for brands with a GEO team, a budget line and a category worth fighting over. The governance, the reporting depth and the account support reflect that. Kitbase is built for a marketing team that wants the numbers without a dedicated analyst.

If your requirement is "the widest possible view of the answer layer, and we can pay for it," Profound is the better buy and we'd rather you knew that now.

## Where Kitbase is a different shape

Kitbase treats AI visibility as one stage of a funnel rather than the whole product.

An AI visibility score tells you that ChatGPT mentions you in 34% of answers about your category. It doesn't tell you why. The three plausible explanations are that the engines can't read your pages, that they read them and prefer someone else's, or that they cite a third-party review site you have no presence on. Those need different fixes, and separating them needs data from outside the answer layer.

Kitbase collects all three in one project:

- **Crawler data.** Forwarded from your server or edge, so you see which AI crawlers fetched which URLs and when. GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot don't run JavaScript, so no tag-based analytics tool can see them. Kitbase verifies each claimed identity against the crawler's published ranges, which matters because [spoofing a user agent is trivial](/blog/verify-googlebot-spoofing).
- **Citation data.** Which domains and exact pages the engines lean on when answering about your category, tagged as yours, a competitor's or a third party, and classified by source type from UGC to editorial.
- **Referral and conversion data.** Cookieless web analytics on the same events pipeline, so a visit that arrived from an AI answer can be followed through a funnel.

Put together, that is the [GEO funnel](/blog/geo-funnel): crawled, cited, clicked, converted. Profound covers the first two halves well and does have agent analytics for the crawler side. It isn't a web analytics platform, so the last stage lives in whatever else you run.

There's one more difference that follows from how the answers are read. Kitbase captures the real chatgpt.com and gemini.google.com responses rather than an API completion, and ChatGPT sells ad slots inside those responses. So Kitbase reports the paid placements sitting in an answer alongside the organic mentions, on ChatGPT and on both of Google's AI surfaces. A tool querying a chat API cannot do this at any price, because a completion has no ad slots in it. If your category is one where competitors have started buying their way into AI answers, that gap is worth checking before you choose.

## The comparison

| | Profound | Kitbase |
|---|---|---|
| Answer engines | 10+, incl. Copilot, Grok, Meta AI | Up to 10; Copilot, Grok and Meta AI not covered |
| Engines on entry plan | Broad | ChatGPT only |
| Real prompt-volume data | Yes | No |
| Presence, share of voice, sentiment | Yes | Yes |
| Mentioned vs cited reported separately | Yes | Yes |
| Cited-source mapping | Yes | Yes, with source-type classification |
| Paid placements inside answers | Not documented | Yes, ChatGPT + Google's AI surfaces |
| AI crawler analytics | Yes | Yes, with identity verification |
| Cookieless web analytics | No | Yes |
| Funnels, retention, frustration signals | No | Yes |
| Backlinks and link opportunities | No | Yes |
| Site audit | No | Yes |
| MCP server for AI assistants | Not documented | Yes, on every plan |
| Pricing shape | Premium, sales-led | Published plans from $99/mo, 7-day trial |

Two rows need a caveat. Profound's **agent analytics** genuinely covers crawler tracking, so that row isn't a Kitbase-only column; the difference is that Kitbase verifies identity and reports per-path crawl frequency alongside human traffic in the same project. And **pricing shape** is not a quality judgment. Sales-led pricing usually comes with onboarding and a named contact, which plenty of teams want.

## Non-determinism, and why sampling design matters

Ask ChatGPT the same question twice and the brand list can change. That makes any single answer worthless as a measurement, and it means the honest unit of analysis is a trend across repeated runs. Both tools sample repeatedly, so this isn't a differentiator, but it does explain a cost most buyers underestimate: every prompt × engine query is a paid API call, and the bill scales with how seriously you sample.

Kitbase handles that with resumable runs. Completed provider calls are recorded and never re-executed, so a deploy or a restart mid-run resumes instead of re-paying for finished queries, and cancelling a run keeps everything already finished. It's an unglamorous detail that shows up on your invoice. We wrote about the underlying problem in [why AI answers aren't deterministic](/blog/ai-answers-non-determinism).

## Which one fits

**Choose Profound if** you're an enterprise brand in a contested category, you need Copilot, Grok or Meta AI coverage, or you want to know what people actually ask AI rather than what your team guessed they ask. The prompt-demand data is a real moat and no competitor has matched it.

**Choose Kitbase if** you want the answer-layer numbers connected to the crawler and analytics data that explain them, you'd rather read published pricing than book a call, or you're a marketing-led team without a dedicated GEO analyst. You'll trade engine breadth on the lower plans for a complete funnel in one login.

Plenty of teams run a specialist visibility tool next to a separate analytics stack and stitch the story together in a spreadsheet each month. If that's your current setup, the question isn't which vendor scores higher on a feature grid. It's whether the stitching is worth doing by hand.

## FAQ

**Is Kitbase a Profound alternative?**
For teams that want AI visibility alongside crawler detection and web analytics, yes. For teams that specifically need prompt-volume data or Copilot, Grok and Meta AI coverage, Profound covers ground Kitbase doesn't.

**How many AI engines does each one track?**
Profound covers ten or more surfaces including Copilot, Grok, Meta AI and DeepSeek. Kitbase reaches ten, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, but the number available depends on your plan.

**Does Profound track AI crawlers?**
Yes, through its agent analytics. Kitbase does the same and additionally verifies whether a crawler claiming to be GPTBot really is, which filters out scrapers spoofing the header.

**What does Profound cost compared to Kitbase?**
Profound is priced at the premium end and quoted through sales; published figures on third-party roundups disagree with each other, so confirm directly. Kitbase publishes plans starting at $99/month with a 7-day trial and no credit card.

**Can I use both?**
Yes, and some teams do. Profound for the demand and breadth picture, Kitbase for the crawl-to-conversion funnel. It's redundant spend if your category is small enough that both tell you the same thing.
