**SE Ranking and Semrush both fold AI visibility into a full SEO suite, and the comparison comes down to whether Semrush's data depth justifies several times the price.** For a lot of teams it doesn't.

Disclosure: we build Kitbase, a dedicated AI visibility tool, mentioned once at the end.

## The short version

Pick **SE Ranking** if you want rank tracking, keyword research, backlinks, site audit and AI visibility with multi-language support at a price a small team can absorb.

Pick **Semrush** if you need its keyword and backlink datasets at scale, advertising research, or its content tooling.

## The AI modules

SE Ranking's AI visibility module tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, with multi-brand and multi-language monitoring.

Semrush's AI Toolkit tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI surfaces, producing a visibility score with competitor benchmarking and brand-perception signals, backed by a very large prompt database.

Engine coverage is close. Neither covers Claude as of writing. The differences are elsewhere.

**Roughly even on coverage.**

## Multi-language and multi-brand

SE Ranking includes multi-language and multi-brand tracking as standard rather than reserving it for a top tier. For an agency, or a company selling across five markets, that's a substantial saving over tools charging per brand or per market.

Semrush supports multi-market work, and its AI Toolkit is typically priced per domain, which compounds across properties.

**SE Ranking wins**, and it's the clearest practical advantage.

## Data behind the module

Semrush's prompt and keyword database is far larger, which helps with the hardest question in GEO: which prompts to track. If your prompt list is guesswork, that data narrows it.

Its backlink index and content tooling are also considerably deeper, so the work you'd do after finding a gap happens in the same tool.

**Semrush wins on data.**

## Total cost

SE Ranking is priced well below Semrush for a comparable suite footprint. Once you add Semrush's AI Toolkit per domain, the gap widens further.

Published pricing changes constantly for both, so confirm directly. The direction is consistent though: SE Ranking is the value option and Semrush is the depth option.

**SE Ranking wins on cost.**

## Side by side

| | SE Ranking | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| AI engines | 5, incl. both Google AI surfaces | 4–5 |
| Claude | No | No |
| Multi-language AI tracking | Included | Supported |
| Multi-brand tracking | Included | Per domain pricing |
| Prompt / keyword database | Good | Very large |
| Backlink index | Medium | Large |
| Advertising research | Limited | Yes |
| AI crawler detection | No | No |
| Price | Well below Semrush | Suite + add-on per domain |

## Which to choose

For most small and mid-sized teams, SE Ranking is the better buy. It covers more of the job for less money, and the AI module is included rather than sold as a separate line item per property. The datasets are smaller, and for a company with a few hundred target keywords that rarely binds.

Semrush earns its price in three situations: you run paid advertising and want competitor ad research, you produce content at volume and use its content tooling, or your keyword and backlink work is deep enough that dataset size genuinely limits you.

The shared limitation is more consequential than the differences: neither reports AI crawler activity. Both crawl your site with their own bots for site audits, which is a different job from telling you whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot or Google-Extended fetched a page. Those crawlers don't execute JavaScript, so no tag sees them either. When your AI visibility score moves and you want to know why, that's the missing input in both suites.

Kitbase covers that layer and reaches ten answer surfaces including Claude, with none of the SEO tooling either suite provides. Covered in [Kitbase vs SE Ranking AI Visibility](/blog/kitbase-vs-se-ranking-ai-visibility) and [Kitbase vs Semrush](/blog/kitbase-vs-semrush).

## FAQ

**Which AI visibility module is better?**
SE Ranking's is better value and includes multi-language tracking. Semrush's is backed by more prompt data.

**Does either track Claude?**
Not as of writing. Confirm directly, since coverage changes frequently.

**Which is cheaper overall?**
SE Ranking, meaningfully, especially across several domains where Semrush's per-domain AI pricing compounds.

**Can I use just the AI module without the suite?**
No. Both are add-ons or components of a suite subscription.

**Do either track AI crawlers?**
No. Neither reports which AI crawlers fetched your pages.
