Hall and Kitbase are the two tools in this category that take both halves of the problem seriously: what AI answers say about you, and whether AI crawlers can read your site. Hall gets you there cheaper, with a free tier that’s genuinely usable. Kitbase verifies the crawler data and carries the funnel through to conversion.

We build Kitbase. Hall is the tool we most often tell people to try first.

Hall’s case

Two things make Hall unusual.

A free tier that answers a real question. Most free tiers in this category exist to generate a demo request. Hall’s is good enough to establish whether AI answers matter for your category before anyone signs a purchase order. For a team that hasn’t yet justified GEO spend internally, that’s worth more than any feature.

Citation context, not just citations. Hall shows the conversation around a citation rather than the bare URL. When you’re trying to work out why an engine cited a competitor’s page, seeing what the answer actually said is the difference between a data point and an explanation. Kitbase reports the cited page, its owner and its source type, but doesn’t surface the surrounding conversation the way Hall does.

Add server-side AI agent analytics for crawlers like GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot, roughly eight surfaces covered, and search-demand data with geographic and demographic breakdowns, and Hall covers a lot of ground for the money.

Kitbase’s case

Kitbase overlaps heavily with Hall and diverges in three places.

Verified crawler identity. Hall tracks crawlers server-side. Kitbase does too, and additionally checks each claim against the crawler’s published identity before counting it. Anything can put GPTBot in a user-agent header, and scrapers do it constantly to get past naive blocks. Without verification, your crawl numbers include impersonators. That distinction can move the figures noticeably, and it’s the difference between “OpenAI read 400 of our pages” and “something claiming to be OpenAI did.”

Web analytics in the same project. Kitbase runs cookieless web analytics on the same events pipeline: autocapture, custom events, funnels, journeys, retention, page durations and rage-click detection, with a server-side anonymous ID and no consent banner needed for anonymous tracking. So a visit arriving from a ChatGPT answer sits in the same system as the crawl of the page that produced it, and can be followed to a signup. Hall is a GEO platform and doesn’t do this.

The work after the diagnosis. Backlink opportunities assembled from the domains AI cites for your category where you’re absent, ranked as an outreach list, plus a marketplace for placements on those sites, a site audit, and keyword research.

The honest limitation: Hall covers more engines on cheaper plans, and it has a free tier. Kitbase’s Starter plan at $99 a month tracks ChatGPT only. On engines-per-dollar at the low end, Hall wins clearly.

How to choose

Start with Hall if you haven’t proved the channel yet, you want the most engines for the least money, or citation context is what you keep wishing you had. There’s no argument for paying us $99 a month to watch one engine when Hall will watch eight for nothing.

Choose Kitbase if you’ve passed that point and the open questions have changed. Specifically: you want crawl counts you can trust rather than counts inflated by spoofed user agents, you want AI referrals traced to revenue rather than handed off to a separate analytics tool, or you’re consolidating a visibility tool, an analytics tool and a crawler script into one bill.

The sequence Hall then Kitbase is a reasonable one and we’d rather say so than pretend otherwise.

FAQ

Does Hall have a free plan? Yes, and unlike most free tiers here it covers enough to be useful, including crawler analytics.

Which tracks more AI engines? Hall at the low end. Kitbase reaches ten surfaces on its Business plan, including Claude, DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi and Google AI Mode.

What is crawler identity verification and why does it matter? It’s checking that a request claiming to come from GPTBot really originated from OpenAI’s published infrastructure. Spoofing a user agent takes one line of code, so unverified crawl counts include scrapers wearing a real crawler’s name.

Can Hall replace my web analytics? No. It’s a GEO platform. Kitbase includes cookieless web analytics with funnels and retention on the same pipeline.

Should I use both? Rarely worth it. They overlap on the core job. Hall for the cheap start and citation context, Kitbase when you want verified crawl data joined to conversions.
