Why we support open source

We believe open source makes the world better. The tools we rely on every day were built by people who chose to share their work openly.

If you're building in the open, we want to help. Not as a marketing gimmick — but because we think it's the right thing to do. Great open source projects deserve great tools, regardless of budget.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the Open Source Program

What counts as open source?

We follow the Open Source Initiative (OSI) definition. Your project must use an OSI-approved license and be publicly accessible. Internal tools, private forks, or source-available projects with restrictive licenses don't qualify.

Do I need to renew?

No. Once approved, your access continues as long as your project remains open source and actively maintained. We may check in annually to confirm eligibility, but there's no renewal process.

What if my project goes commercial?

If your project transitions to a commercial model, let us know and we'll move you to the appropriate paid plan. We'll give you plenty of notice and help with the transition.

Can I use it for multiple OSS projects?

Yes! Each qualifying open source project can have its own Kitbase project. Just include all project links in your application.

How long does approval take?

Most applications are reviewed within 1–2 business days. We'll email you as soon as your application is approved.
