Moz Alternatives: SEO Tools and the AI Visibility Layer
Moz Pro alternatives compared on backlink data, keyword research, rank tracking and AI visibility, for teams modernising an ageing SEO stack.
Moz built the vocabulary a lot of SEO teams still use, Domain Authority included, and its tooling has been outpaced on data depth by Ahrefs and Semrush. Teams leaving usually want a bigger link index, better keyword data, or coverage of the AI answer layer that Moz barely touches.
We build Kitbase, which covers the AI layer and none of the SEO layer.
Bigger data
Ahrefs
The largest backlink index available, strong keyword data, Site Explorer for competitive analysis, and Brand Radar for AI visibility across six surfaces including Copilot. The usual upgrade from Moz for link-led teams. Best for teams whose work centres on links.
Semrush
Comparable data with more breadth: advertising research, content tooling, social, plus the AI Toolkit. Best for marketing teams beyond pure SEO.
Majestic
Backlinks only, with Trust Flow and Citation Flow, and a large historic index. If Domain Authority was the main thing you used Moz for, this is the direct replacement at lower cost. Best for link-focused work.
Better value
SE Ranking
Rank tracking, keyword research, backlinks, site audit and an AI visibility module covering five surfaces with multi-brand and multi-language support, priced below Moz Pro in many configurations. Best for small teams and agencies.
Serpstat and Mangools
Cheaper still, with smaller datasets. Best for solo operators.
The layer Moz doesn’t reach
Moz’s AI visibility coverage is limited compared with what Ahrefs, Semrush and SE Ranking now ship, and none of them cover AI crawlers at all.
That second gap is the structural one. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot don’t run JavaScript, so tag-based analytics can’t see them, and SEO suites crawl the web with their own bots rather than reading your server traffic. Since AI answers are grounded in retrieved pages, whether the engines fetched a page determines whether it can be cited at all.
Kitbase
Kitbase provides server-side AI crawler detection: requests forwarded from your server or edge, each resolved to a named crawler and vendor and verified against that crawler’s published identity, with per-path crawl frequency, and forwarders for Next.js, Vercel, nginx and Cloudflare Workers.
Above that, up to ten answer surfaces, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, reporting presence rate with brand mentions and domain citations counted separately, share of voice normalised across every tracked brand with a dense rank, cited pages classified as yours, a competitor’s or third-party and tagged by source type, and per-mention sentiment, recommendation status and list position.
Alongside: cookieless web analytics with autocapture, funnels, journeys, retention and rage-click detection, backlink opportunities built from the domains AI cites where you’re absent, a link marketplace, a site audit and keyword research.
The honest limitation: no rank tracking, and backlink and keyword data licensed from DataForSEO rather than crawled in-house. It sits next to an SEO tool rather than replacing one. Best for teams adding AI-era measurement.
Profound, Peec AI and Hall
The dedicated AI visibility options at enterprise, mid-market and free tiers respectively. Best for teams who want the answer layer only.

Domain Authority in an AI world
Worth addressing, since it’s often the reason teams stay on Moz.
Domain Authority is a predictive score for search ranking, built from link data. It was never an official Google metric and it isn’t an AI engine metric either. Answer engines retrieve and synthesise sources, and while authority correlates with what gets retrieved, no engine exposes anything resembling a DA score.
For AI visibility the useful measures are different: whether your pages get crawled, whether you’re cited rather than merely mentioned, which third-party sources carry your category, and whether you’re recommended or just listed. Reporting DA alongside AI visibility invites a comparison that doesn’t hold.
If DA is still how your organisation talks about authority, Moz remains the source. Just don’t expect it to predict AI citations. Our AI visibility metrics guide covers what does.
FAQ
What is the best Moz alternative? Ahrefs for link data, Semrush for breadth, SE Ranking for value, Majestic if you only need backlinks.
Is Domain Authority still useful? As a relative link-strength comparison, yes. It doesn’t predict AI citations and never claimed to.
Does Moz track AI visibility? Its coverage is limited compared with Ahrefs, Semrush and SE Ranking. Confirm current features with Moz.
Which alternatives track AI crawlers? No SEO suite does. Kitbase, Profound, Hall and Scrunch AI report AI crawler activity from your server or edge.
Can I drop SEO tooling entirely for AI tools? No. Organic results feed Google’s AI surfaces, so search visibility still matters.
