The check crawlers can’t perform

Every tool above crawls your site with its own bot. None of them tell you which AI crawlers visited, which is now a load-bearing question, because AI answers are grounded in pages the engines actually fetched.

The gap is structural. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot don’t execute JavaScript, so tag-based analytics can’t see them, and a crawler auditing your site tells you nothing about who else has been.

Kitbase

Three AI checks to add to a technical audit

Whatever crawler you use, these belong in the audit now.

Robots rules for AI crawlers. Blocking GPTBot blocks citation, and broad disallow rules catch AI crawlers by accident more often than teams realise. Decide deliberately rather than inheriting a rule from 2019, and read should you block AI crawlers before choosing either way.

Rendering without JavaScript. AI crawlers don’t run it. Crawl with rendering disabled and check whether your key pages still contain their content. A page that renders client-side is effectively empty to them, and this is the single most common technical reason a well-optimised site gets no AI citations.

Actual crawler visits. An audit proves a page is crawlable. Server-side detection proves something crawled it. Those are different facts, and only the second predicts citation.
