AI Visibility & GEO

What is Site Audit (GEO Readiness)?

A site audit, in the AI visibility sense, is a scored checklist of whether a site is technically ready to be crawled, understood, and cited by AI systems — a GEO-focused counterpart to a traditional technical SEO audit. Rather than checking hundreds of generic ranking factors, it narrows in on the specific things that determine whether an AI crawler can reach a page and an AI engine can make sense of it once it does.

Checks typically group into a small number of categories: crawler access (is robots.txt valid, do explicit rules allow AI bots, are edge rules like a CDN or WAF silently blocking them, are HTTPS and redirects healthy), machine readability (is content present in the initial HTML, are titles and meta descriptions set, is structured data in place, is there one clean heading hierarchy, do sampled pages return healthy responses), and your own AI traffic (are AI crawlers actually visiting, how fresh is the most recent crawl, how does the site's AI answer visibility look today).

The output is a score plus a prioritized fix list — each failing check comes with a specific, actionable remediation, not just a pass or fail flag. Because the checks are about eligibility rather than content quality, most of the items are one-time or infrequent fixes rather than ongoing content work.

Example

A site audit flags that robots.txt correctly allows GPTBot, but no AI crawler has actually visited in the last 30 days. Cross-referencing with the crawler-access checks shows the CDN is silently blocking the bot at the edge — the fix is a five-minute allowlist change in the CDN's dashboard, not a content rewrite.
